Operation Beautiful...
I recently saw a segment about Operation Beautiful on the Oprah Winfrey Show. What started with scepticism quickly turned into awe and amazement. I was in disbelief that such a small effort by a complete stranger could have such an overwhelming impact on someone's self-confidence. Let's just say it was very inspirational. So with "International love your body day" - 19 October 2011, looming around the corner I decided to highlight this blog in hopes it will help you to love your body.
"I'm Caitlin, and I'm the editor of Operation Beautiful. The mission of Operation Beautiful is to post anonymous notes in public places for other women to find. The point is that WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL. You are enough... just the way you are!" - Caitlin
The goal of the Operation Beautiful website is to end negative self-talk or “Fat Talk" by posting anonymous post-its in public places. I have yet to find one of these post-its in South Africa but I am hoping it will catch on soon. It is a great idea, promoting great values and teaching people to love themselves just a little more. The Operation Beautiful project also promotes a better body image by putting real women in the media and advertisements. Seeing adverts and movies featuring beautiful, stunning girls quickly deflates any self-confidence I have. Seeing real women and girls with curves, confident with the way they look, makes me swell with pride. Then for at least a moment I feel worthy of being female, not a total waste of space. It helps. It really, really helps.
